Robert Shedden born 19th November 1789, sailed for India as a cadet in May I808, in the ship Traverse, which was wrecked in the Bay of Bengal, when he escaped with nothing but the clothes on his back.

On 20th March 1814 he was appointed lieutenant in the 8th, and afterwards received his commission as captain in the 12th Madras Native Infantry.

He died suddenly, and unmarried, at Vizianagram on 25th July 1828, a general favourite, and much regretted by his brother officers.
