Multan was in India up until partition in 1947 when that area of India became the western part of Pakistan.
George's family had moved from Multan to Saharanpur by 1915 when Gertrude was born.
George was about 6 or 7 years old when his mother (Emilia) died
George and his brothers and sisters all went to boarding school in Agra.
When George's father (John Henry) died, George lived for some time with his cousin, William Joseph, possibly in Howra or Calcutta. He worked in the textile industry for some time but by the time he married Kathleen he was secretary at the Grail club in Calcutta.
