Elizabeth's surname is spelled Whitley.
This information came from John and Elizabeth's Marriage Record.
John presumably died before 1826 when Mary Ann, daughter of William Simmonds, was conceived.
Elizabeth's birth name appears as Wheatley, Whitely, Whitley, Weally and Paye in various documents. I have settled on Wheatley because that is the name in the London Gazette account of the disposal of her estate.
The document that convinces me that Elizabeth was the mother of William Simmonds Children is the Inventory account (L/AG/34/27/290) of her estate which mentions "Mary Ann and Caroline the daughters of the deceased by the late Seargent William Simmons"
British Library Burial record N2/18/84 gives Elizabeth's age when she died as 32 and she is described as:
"Wife of the Late Gunner Page of the Carnatic European Vetran Battalion Indo Briton"
