Caroline Simmonds and Stephen Pincott

Caroline Simmonds was the daughter of William Simmonds and Elizabeth Wheatley or Page, she was born in Masulipatnam, India in 1830.

Caroline's father was a serjeant in the Madras European regiment, he died in 1835 when Caroline was just 4 years old. Caroline's mother died, 6 months later, a few days after giving birth to William Simmonds son. Caroline's new brother was named William Simmonds after his father.

Caroline and her sister, Mary Ann, were sent to the Madras female asylum (orphanage) after the death of both of their parents. Baby William was sent to the male asylum.

Caroline married Stephen Pincott, a corporal in the 1st Madras Fusiliers, in 1845 at the age of 15. I found Stephen's place and year of birth on the muster rolls for 1847. Caroline and Stephen had at least two children in Bellary and four in Rangoon.

In 1846, when Caroline reached "her majority", the amount left to her by her father was paid to her and her husband Stephen Pincott. This information came from the London Gazette.

Caroline's father and husband were both from England but because her mother was Anglo Indian, Caroline was also Anglo Indian or Indo Briton.

Stephen Pincott transferred to the British Army in 1861 where Stephen was a Shipping Serjeant in the Masters General Department (this could be QuarterMaster Generals Department) in Rangoon, the British army records give Stephen's date of death as 20 September 1865.

According to another researcher, Stephen died in Port Blair, Andaman Islands.
