Roy joined the Army after leaving school and and served in Palestine, when he was discharged he lived in Castle Douglas with his mother and was a Janitor at Castle Douglas school for a couple of years.
He was recalled to the army at the start of world war 2 and served in France with the Cameron Highlanders.
Roy died in Holderness, near Hull in 1940 while still serving in the army and shortly after being evacuated from Dunkirk.
He is buried in Castle Douglas Cemetery.
