John McSkimming (1880 - 1932)

John's surname entered on his birth certificate is Skimming but this changed to McSkimming on his marriage certificate.
The surname prefixes "Mc" and "Mac" both appear at various times on BMD certificates and census records.

John was born in 1880 at Chapeoton in Kirkmabreck.
He died in 1932 in Guthrie, Angus at the age of 52.
John Married Margaret Jamieson in 1900 at Senwick Park, Borgue in Kirkcudbrightshire, they had 10 children.

John lived in Penninghame, Newton Stewart at the time of his marriage.
John's occupation when he married was that of a railway porter, at the date of his death, he was station master at Guthrie in Angus.

John and Margaret are known to have lived in Penninghame, Garlieston, Parton and Guthrie.
In the 1911 Census, the family are living in Station Lane, Garlieston and John's occupation is "Railway Porter".
According to an engraved clock that was presented to John when he left Parton, the family moved to Guthrie in February 1931.

Margaret returned to Castle Douglas after the death of John and lived at 3 Douglas Terrace until her death in 1939. She actually died at Cooper Croft in Borgue, when she was attending the funeral of her nephew, Hugh Jamieson Thomson.

John and Margaret were both buried in Castle Douglas cemetery, the information known was obtained from their gravestone in that cemetery and from Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates and Censuses.
