Crawford and Skimming family connections

Apart from the marriage of Janet Crawford and Thomas Skimming in Minnigaff in 1861, I can find no evidence that the Crawfords are directly related to any of the (Mc)Skimming or Chisholm families that I have been researching.

However, I have included a page of Crawford connections because I found it interesting that the families in Blackcraig were obviously close neighbours, they often appear on the same pages of the censuses.

Matthew Crawford was James Skimming's half brother, their mother was Mary Crawford who eventually married Richard Reid in Minnigaff in 1844.
Matthew was born in Minnigaff in 1841, he married Ellen McGhie (or McGhee) in Minnigaff in 1861. Ellen's mother's maiden name was Mary Crawford, daughter of Charles Crawford and Ellen Murray (or McMale). Matthew and Ellen are described as "cousins" on their marriage certificate. Matthew and James Skimming were boarding together in Rattenrow, Cumbria on the 1871 census.

John Skimming (son of James Skimming and Mary Crawford) married Janet(Jessie) Crawford in Lamplaugh, Cumbria in 1844. Janet's father was Robert Crawford, whose sister was Mary Crawford (John's Grandmother).

Another link between the Skimming and Crawford families was that Thomas Skimming (1831-1898) married Janet Crawford whose parents were Charles Crawford and Ellen Murray (or McMale). Janet appears to have had at least one son before marrying Thomas. There is a 25 year old step son, William Barry, living with Thomas and Janet in the 1881 census and an OPR birth of William Crawford without a father's name on 12 May 1850.
