The descendants of Christina Shedden were all convinced that she was Scottish. This theory was proved wrong with the discovery of Christina's baptism certificate in Trivandrum. However Margaret's granddfather, William Graham, originated in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland. William Graham enlisted in the Madras Horse Artillery in 1816 when he was 16, he sailed to Madras in 1817 on the ship "Herefordshire". William's ranks were Matros, Drill Corporal, Serjeant and Store Serjeant. When William retired in 1842 he was a "Salt Peshkar". William married Jane Farrell and then when she died, he married Eliza Montague, he had 2 children with Jane and 9 with Eliza. The places of residence that appear in various documents are: Madras, Poonamallee, Secundrabad, Bellary, Tellicherry, and Calicut.
