Walter Rupert Leopold D'Silva
The family knows that Francis D'Silva had two brothers: Alfred and Walter.
I have found good document and DNA trails to confirm
the history of both these families.
I have viewed a Portuguese Baptism record which I understand to give the information that "Walter Rupert Leopold D'Silva was born on
28 January 1865 in Calcutta. He was the son of Nicholas and Caroline D'Silva, Nicholas's occupation is given as Branding Officer."
The family knew that Walter was married to Alice and they had daughters: Edna, Effie, Annie and Rita.
Documents I have found to support this are:
- Baptism record for Walter Rupert Leopold D'Silva
- Marriage record for Edna Dora D'Silva and William George Richardson in 1924 naming Edna's parents.
- Baptism and marriage records for Amy Norah D'Silva marriage to John Robinson Brown, both naming Amy's parents.
Perhaps the daughter known by the family as Annie could be Amy.
- Baptism and marriage records for Margurite or Margarita D'Silva marriage to James Percival Spencer, both naming Margurite's parents.
It is thought that Rita may have been a shortened version of Margarita.
- Baptism and Death records for Maurice Walter D'Silva, Walter died in his first year.
- Death records for both Walter Rupert Leopold D'Silva and Alice Dora D'Silva, both giving Walter's occupation.
- Gazetted and other Officers serving History of Service which gives Walter's date of birth as 28 Jan 1866.
Walter's occupation as stated on both his and Alice's death records was "retired Deputy Superintendant Reformatory School Hazaribagh",
while on some of his children's baptism records, he was a "Govt. Clerk".
