Persons shown in boxes outlined in red are known to have been young British men who enlisted as soldiers in the Honourable East India Company Madras army and sailed to India in the early 1800's where they married or took partners and remained for the rest of their lives. Typically, the wives or partners were native or Anglo Indians (also known as Indo-Britons).
