Note on Marriage

George seemed to have been known as Ogilvie.

George joined the Army when he left school and served with the Cameron Highlanders possibly in Palestine or Egypt.

When he was discharged from the army, he joined the Police force in Arbroath.

He obviously knew Williamina (always known as Minnie) before he went to Arbroath because she followed him there in 1939 when they got married, Minnie's parents did not want her to marry George.

World War II was declared by Britain on 3 September 1939.

George was then recalled to the army and he served with the Cameron Highlanders, in North Africa, Sicily, France the Netherlands and Germany.

Note on Wife: Williamina Hall CHISHOLM

Williamina, known as Minnie, grew up in Castle Douglas.

She served an apprenticeship as a tailoress in Castle Douglas with Livingston the tailor.

In 1939 she went to Arbroath and married George McSkimming against her parent's wishes.

After marriage, she lived in Arbroath until her death in 1988.

Minnie worked in Arbroath as a tailoress and upholsteress.

When she died in 1988, Minnie was walking with a rambling club in the Falkland hills in Fife when she suffered a heart attack. She was taken to Kirkcaldy hospital but was dead on arrival.
