Samuel Chisholm (b. c.1790) and Jane McDowell

The earliest Chisholm that I can find is Samuel, who according to the death certificate of his son John is the "reputed father" of John (there does not seem to be any doubt about John's mother being Jane McDowall).

I have not found any mention of the Chisholm's in the Scottish "Old Parish Records" before 1855 but after that date when statutory records were required, I have traced BMD certificates for the family through to the mid 1900's.

I have not found a death certificate or census entry for either John or Jane Chisholm (or Jane McDowall), so I am assuming that they both must have died before 1841.

John Chisholm (c. 1814 - 1870) and Mary Hewatt

John and Mary Chisholm can be found in the 1841 census living in Dundrennan village, in 1851 they are address is Rascarrel cottage, Rerrick. In the 1851 census, John's place of birth is Rerrick and Mary's is Crossmichael.

I believe that John and Mary had 9 Children, mostly I got their year of birth from the 1841 and 1851 census.

Mary died in Rerrick in 1861 aged 44 and John died in Rerrick in 1870 aged 59. These ages were taken from death certificates and do not correspond with those in the various censuses.
