Caroline Simmonds was the daughter of William Simmonds, she was born in Masulipatnam, India in 1830. Caroline's father was a serjeant in the Madras European regiment, he died in 1835 when Caroline was just 4 years old. Caroline's mother also died in 1865 so she was brought in an Asylum (Orphanage) Caroline married Stephen Pincott, a corporal in the 1st Madras Fusiliers, at the age of 15 in 1845. Caroline's father and husband were both from England but because her mother was Anglo Indian, Caroline was also Anglo Indian or Indo Briton.
