Hanwith-Horden Family

Note: In all the documents I have seen, the family name always appears as Horden with Hanwith as a middle name, the hyphen was not used in any documents in India.

The Hanwith-Horden family are of interest because two Hanwith-Horden brothers, Charles and John, married two of the Pierce sisters, Alice and Mildred.

The marriages in Dhurrumtollah, Calcutta were found in the Ecclesiastical records at the British Library with sufficient detail to identify the families.

A search of the Thackers Indian Directories provided the following information:

I found a will for John Hanwith Horden in the register of wills, British Library ref L/AG/34/29/153.
A summary of the will is:
John Hanwith Horden, 69 Bentinck street, Calcutta left all his belongings to his wife Mildred Ann Horden.
The will was dated 13/12/1907 and he died 31/1/1908.
The estate value is recorded as 4,242 Rupees.

The knowledge that Charles and Alice moved on from India to Zimbabwe and the possibility that Charles was born in Australia came from a Hanwith-Horden family researcher.

In the table below, I have listed events which I think could be clues to the parents of the Charles and John who married the Pierce sisters.
